Textual analysis practise

Analyse how camera language has been used to construct the narrative in a media product you have studied. (12 marks) One way camera language has been used to construct the narrative of 'Get Out' (2017) is the use of tracking and handheld shots. Tracking shots are used throughout the scene to set a pace of whats going on. The character is walking rather quickly which helps develop the idea of a fast paced narrative. We see this mainly in this scene where the characters emotions are quite high due to him being scared or nervous but we also see it used throughout the film in other scenes. The tracking shots are used to highlight that the character is in danger and almost act as the eyes of the antagonist. This ties into Todorov's theory as in the scene we can see how the equilibrium has been distributed which also happened at a rather fast pace. Another way camera language has been used to construct the narrative of 'Get Out' (2017) is through the use of different...

Film scene analysis

Movie: Trouble with the curve Link to scene - https://youtu.be/efWgBKLzVZk Mise on scene: Lighting - scene takes place outside in daylight, Key light used Focus on the foreground of the scene, not so much the background as nothing is going on with it. Characters are wearing a variety of casual sports clothing. The characters with authority or power are dressed a bit smarter to portray this. Because the scene takes place on a baseball field, some characters are dressed in baseball clothes. The overall perspective is that the clothing is fitting to what job each character has in the film. The props used are typically just baseball equipment, however the scene takes place with some cameramen watching so we also see cameras and tripods being used in the scene. The setting of the shot is inside a baseball arena. Colour palette is quite bright colours, baseball jerseys orange on dark blue. Bright green in the background of the baseball field. Hair and makeup are done to r...

This can be as simple as two characters fighting, but more often functions at an ideological level. Vladamir Propp and the Propp Theory: Analysed the plot components of Russian folk tales to identify their basic narrative elements. He theorised that there were the same 8 characters in every narrative; Hero - Who goes on a quest and usually ends up with the princess Villain - Who is against the hero Dispatcher - Who sets the hero off on their quest Donor - Helps the hero and sometimes has a magical power/object to help Princess - Is usually the prize for the hero that the hero must overcome a task/defeat the villain to get her.  Her father - Rewards the hero. Usually identifies the false hero  The false hero - Takes credit for the hero’s actions and tries to marry/end up with the princess The helper - Someone who helps the hero on thei...
