Market and distribution
Web 2.0 and technological convergence
A technological convergence is a piece of technology with multiple purposes. for example a smart phone would be as you can do a lot of things such as calls, texts and play music. However a disposable cameras are not as they only takes photos.
A black box is a devise that supplies us with all of our informational and media requirements for example a smart phone.
Today marketing campaigns are considered technological converged when they operate over a number of different digital platforms.
The dot.com boom was a huge rise in the number of internet-based companies. Where a lot of people were willing to invest in websites as they saw it as the future.
Being constantly connected and interact with people and businesses are the two main features of Web 2.0.
Web 2.0 site allows users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators (prosumers) of each user generated content.
A prosumer is someone who produces content and consumes content at the same time for example twitter users.
Web 2.0 or 'new digital media' shapes the relations of public/private, work/non work, home/ outside home.
Mobile phones enhance social connections that have always existed: gossip, making arrangements.
digital native is someone who's grown up with technology.
Impact of online distribution
Music and television can now be downloaded, streamed, or simulcasted at the click of a button - without ever having to leave your armchair. It is available to you wherever and whenever.
Spotify is an online only distributor.
Gaming consoles use both types of distributors.
the way the world is heading the middle men who sell stuff on such as GAME are losing customers as people tend to buy straight from XBOX or Playstation.
As netlifx's revenue went up blockbusters went down due to technological revolution.
Love film is another example of how physical distributor has gone out of business.
Simulcasting is when a media is shown on multiple platforms.
Narrow cast channel is a channel that distribute special interest (niche) content for example Russia today and Chelsea TV.
below the line advertising is advertising done at the point of sale. For example when you pay for something and on your receipt there is a promotion.
online advertising is becoming increasingly sophisticated. What companies are beginning to do is advertise to you without you realising your being advertised to for example product placement in the background of a video.
